The Grand Island, Neb., beef packing plant of JBS Swift & Co. has become eligible to export beef products to Russia, according to meatingplace.com.

It was among four plants gaining eligibility for exports to Russia this week. The Greeley, Cactus, Texas and Hyrum, Utah plants already were eligible. The other three gaining eligibility this week, meatingplace.com said, were the Cargill Meat Solutions plant in Fort Morgan and Smithfield Beef Group's plants in Tolleson, Ariz., and Green Bay, Wis.

JBS S.A., the parent company of JBS Swift & Co., bought National Beef of Kansas City and the Smithfield Beef Group earlier this year.

While that deal has not yet been approved by the U.S. Justice Department, National's plants in Liberal and Dodge City, Kan., also are eligible to export to Russia, while Smithfield plants in Brawley, Calif., and Plainwell, Mich. had also been approved previously.
